It cuts off the ignition so the plugs will not fire.

I haven't hit mine yet either but from what i understand it just backs of like you let off the throttle and then wont let you accel any more in that gear, unless you let the rpms come down first. I don't know for sure but this is what happens when if i hit it in my truck and what my dad has explained to me on his 02 wide glide. If any one has a better explanation i would like to hear it as well so im not suprised when it happens

Excessive RPM's are controlled through the ignition. Spark is not cut completely. Just sounds and feels like it's sputtering or "missing". Totally different from the electronic speed limiter present in most of today's cars and trucks.

With the setup you have, they should have been able to bump the rev limiter to 6200 rpm from the 5800 stock setting. I've hit mine a few times, and it does begin to sound and feel like crap until the revs fall below the preset limit.

Hey Tony,

I can't realy say because mine is at 6200 with the SE Ignition module, so I've...uhhh eemm...never hit it.

What I did want to say is that your set up sounds really nice. I would also like to add the 95"kit w/Andrews gear drive cams and hi-comp pistons, ported heads, and Race Tech front emulater/springs w/Prog 412's out back too. I currently have Python 2into2 and S&SSuper E. Just feels unfinished. Better than stock though.

Tony, 5600 is a very conservative # to set the limiter.

The "stock" valve train will rev up to about 6200 or so, w/o exploding.

What happens w/ the limiter is simply preventing your motor
from exceeding this # by breaking up the ignition.
Protecting your investment.

Mine is set at about 6200. Hit it now and then if I don't shift right.
No tach. Gotta change that.

Ya oughta try it one Day, maybe. Maybe not.

Be careful of course, ride it in your comfort zone.
