Well I doubt any work has been done in reference to what you all are talking about. He's had it for 3 years and 16k miles and he said he hasn't had them done. He's more of a dyna/FXR guy and got this bike from a friend of his in northern VA. I mean 30k miles on a 99 seems like decent mileage especially since my 05 has 16k and 11k of that was put on it since last February by me. I want to jump up to a bagger but seems like I want more *** out of it and I wouldn't get it with a heavier bike and the same motor I have in my dyna.

There is always a chance to business with a friend can cause problems down the road. However that aside, if you ride with him, you may end up realizing you should have kept your dyna and have to have it in your face every time you ride. As others said though, if it makes you happy and that's what you want you should do it.

A few mods can turn a Dyna into a pretty respectable touring machine. What about the bagger is the draw for you?

well the radio and fairing is always a plus. On the dyna now and I can def see why people like having baggers to carry stuff, and like I said I think its the fact that I want a bigger motor to have more *** because the pack I ride in Im always having to be in the back because I cant keep up with those 103s, 107s, and 110s. I guess I wouldn't really get that with the bike Im looking at. The wife would also also like to have a bigger bike to ride on as well... I donno Im torn because all these issues that you all are talking about (Minus a couple) will still have to be addressed on my super glide (cam bearings, tensioners, ect)

I know guys do it on Dynas, but if I were doing a lot of long distance 2-up, I wouldn't hesitate to go to a proper touring frame. Extra room (esp. passenger), air shocks, frame-mounted fairing, etc.

For a hot rod, I would shy away from a touring frame. I know they can be made fast, but it's like putting a rocket up a goat's *** rather than just getting a horse.

Best way to lose a mate is to swap rides, if something goes wrong you will not be mates anymore, I say no change, just my 2 pence.

I agree with some of the folks here. Don't do business with friends or family. It's a quick way to lose that relationship.

Me personally I would not make that deal. If you can swing it why not just see if he'll sell you the ultra so you can keep your dyna too. If he's that good of a friend he might cut you a really good deal. The only touring models in my opinion worth buying are the Rushmore models. I see a lot of 15 and earlier for sale at pretty reasonable prices they are a dime a dozen. They are not dynas so it's like comparing apples to oranges. The new 17s handling is second none. Just my 2 cents.
