Default Oil Change Miles

Hey guys I have a 2015 FXDB that I love, I had the oil changed for the 1,000 mile break-in, I've now 4300 miles on it now, should I change the synthetic oil with 3,000 miles? What is the recommended miles between oil changes with synthetic oil?

Try reading your Owners Manual. There is a ton of information in it that you should know.

Agree with OldEnuf; that owner's manual is a valuable asset to help you maintain your ride.

Many here are reporting 3k to 5k engine oil change intervals with synthetics, based on their personal preferences. You may find as I did, synthetics do increase top end noise and with my '13, synthetics increased oil carryover in to the external breathers. While I run Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 synthetic in the primary and either Mobil 1 75W-140 or Redline w/shockproof, both synthetics, in the transmission, I stick with dino in the engine; Valvoline VR1 SAE 50. Straight weights are the preferred oils in warmer temperatures; again, check the owner's manual

I change the engine oil every 2.5k and the primary and transmission every 5k. One other factor is time; if you're the sort of rider that doesn't get many miles in a year a time based fluid change interval may work better than a mileage based interval...

Should be 5K between changes, no matter what oil you have in the bike.

I agree but I was just being lazy at the time. I bought a new Toyota Tundra last year and they recommend 10,000 miles on synthetic, hmm🤔

change your oil as much as you want. as long as you don't let it go too long.

I never really place enough mile per season to justify multiple changes, so I just do a once a year synthetic oil change in the beginning of the riding season.

^^^^^ +1.............only I do my oil change BEFORE storing the bike for the winter. Changing synthetic oil at 2500 miles is wasting money. If you change that often, save your $$$, and use a good dino oil. I'd recommend Bel Ray 20w 50. Also, changing tranny and primary every 5,000 is WAY too soon. Tranny can go 20,000, and primary 10,000 according to owner's manual. I use Spectro Golden Platinum 6-Speed in my tranny, and at $20 a quart, I'm not changing it every 5,000!

Toyota recommended 10,000 clear back in 84' with dino oil. At least they did on my 3/4 ton pickup.
