Default High octane fuel

Just got back from a thousand-mile road trip and used 94 octane fuel along the way and man what a difference in power.
Manual says use 92 or better
Stealership said just use cheap fuel.
I found bike does not respond well with thes cheap stuff, so i have been using 92

But I tried the Chevron Techron 94 just for the hell of it and i noticed an immediate increase in power in the top end.

Like at 120 km/hr, if i wick it it goes faster but i have to wait, whereas with this 94 fuel, when i wick it there is an immediate response, a lot of pull and it's like i just dropped a gear. Plus bike just purrs along, responds better in all gears.

Almost as it it's saying thank you.

Anybody else have any observation as far as higher/lower octane fuel?

i tried the lower octane and i went back to the higher because it caused more noise out of engine and lost power i only use the highest octane now it cost more but runs better

recently I put a half a tank of 100 oct in my bike and it ran like total ***!

I couldnt wait to run it out and refill!

On this situation where as i have a carbed bike that was in fairly good tune the added octane my bike seemed richer and could have used a leaner mixture to run properly.

Stealer recommended cheap fuel eh? [:@]

I have never heard of anyone ever recommended cheap gas. I use Exxon at a minimum. The gas has a nice blue tint to it.

I have made a switch of stations and have been using Sunoco 93 octane. WOW! 50-52 mpg's, combination of city and little highway. Power is unbelievable, and bike runs great. I have been filling up my '05 Ram Hemi there lately also, and have noticed about a 2 mpg increase also, and that's on the 87 octane.

My dealer told me to use 94 as well. To be honest I have noticed no difference between 91 (recommended in manual) and 94. Except for the cost.

Where Do you get 94 ????

Where I'm at looks like 92 is the highest at the pump.
But I always use 92...

Xbox 92 is all I can get here as well .

I can go down the road to MIS (michigan speed way ) and get higher but i tend to use additives (rocket fuel )treats up to 5 gallons and you can notice a differance .

but my dealer told me when I picked up thebike to NOT use cheap gas (im lucky I like my dealer ).

the nice thing is MI is one of the higher gas prices so that makes me smile every time i fill up (joking)

Using a higher octane gas can actually hurt performance if the bike is not tuned for it. It ignites more readily. A lot of higher octane fuels have increased anti knock compounds because of this. You may have to pull back on the timing and lean it out a bit, I know that sounds contrary but it works.

I ran 100 octane once and actually had a problem with detonation that I didn't have on 93 octane.

I just got back from a road trip through Iowa, and I noticed the gas prices in Iowa are pretty strange. Regular Unleaded 87 octane was 10 to 15 cents MORE expensive than the 92 octane premiun unleaded. What's with that? In Illinois, the pricing is exactly the opposite (92 octane is 20 cents more than 87 octane).
