I'm on my second SE 180 tire,first one at about ten thousand and second one at about nineteen thousand,decent mileage for a good handling tire..Was probably a little easier on the bike the second ten thousand miles since some of the new had worn off. Just didn't want you guys to think they are all gonna wear out at fourty five hundred miles.

What ! you mean I went and bought a Metzler 170/60 17" tire for my 07 Wide Glide and see I could of gone with a 180/55 17 and still had room and now somebody tells me I need a tire kit. Nah !
The Metzler tires ride better than the dunlops cause they are more rounded. My tires last according to how I drive. If I hammer my bike and ride to the speedometer runs and buries on 120 and run the heck out of it and I git 5000 miles out of the tire I'm o.k. with that,and when I'm down toward 1/8 or a little more thread on the tire. I replace it anyway. My tires are my safety. I go into curves at 70mph don't want a tire without most of the thread on it. I'm not a normal rider. I like to run the roads. I can come out of the country andgit on 45north headed toward Dallas, Tx. and cruise at 85mph and the traffic is running all over me wanting to go faster.

Well good... more traffic on this subject! This is the reason I posted this in the first place!! to not only let folks here know that I had solved... ooops.. er.. I mean fixed.. er.. well rectified...(will that do???) MY issue with the Screaming Eagle 180 wide tire conversion onMY 06 Dyna.
I was hoping others would chime in with how they are using a Metzler or an Avon or some other such... just to see if there were other fitment options available from other tire makers and if anyone here had tried those options and their success with them. So please continue to post your ideas and your experiences in "solving" your rear tire / tyre options.
I considered a 170 for awhile because thats what the SE CVO Dyna 110 runs and comes stock with. I had Metzlers on a Gxer I used to own a long time ago and they seemed to wear pretty well. As far as my current 160 Dunlop that came on my bike, I got 6200 miles on it andits had it... Iride alot like cardboard does. I have also driven in Dallas traffic card... (not on a bike though ..thank god) I was doing 75 or so on one of their big interstate roads (dont remember which one) .. and I was being passed right and left. I even had a wreckerhauling a car pass me! sheesh but they haul a$$ down there..

H-D are the only folks that make 17" rear wheels in case you haven't done any homework on that..
Was lookin at custom wheels. RC componets. they said their wheels would fit a 180/55 18" wheel on my bike on a 5.5 in rim and not rub with a Metzler tie..
Old lady got called into a meeting and was told her company got bought out and they was letting the accounting folks go. So I ain't spent the money on wheels yet. But I did order a Ace throw over Saddle bag I hope will work with my Fat Cats.

Like the others though, the specified rim size (5.5") is an inch wider than what's on my bike (and probably yours too ?) .

I do wish the rear tire was a bit wider; I'm just so used to seeing a wide tire filling up the rear fender. The 170 Metz does'nt look any wider than the stock Dunlop 160. The 110 on the front looks mean but has rendered the fender useless. I havethe owner ofthe Black Rose in Omaha searching for a custom, duck tail-style fender to remedy this issue.
I'll post some pics sometime this week after my ride home.It's very tempting to blow work off for the rest off the week and sneak to Sturgis a week early

Yep I got a 4.5"on back and a 2.15 on front. I went with a 80 series metzler instead of the mh90 that come on it too.
Well I don't know how to break this to you but no custom wheel company makes a 4.5 wheel. Its gonna be a 4.25 or a 5.5. Now tell me you want to go with a bigger tire and a smaller wheel Nah !

If you went from the 160 to the 170 tire there's only 1/4 in wider in the difference. Not much to notise for the naked eye. I like the thread on the Metzler better too. We got a lot of uneven paved roads and now I don't freak out as much chaning lanes at 80mph.
I like the way the metz handle the curves. I've layed way down on the curves. The old Wide Glide has a good lean angle on it .
Anyway there ain't that much of tire on the road . If you git them too large you just gonna use too much gas turning em. As long as they don't spin too much when you git on it is all you need.
I need some custom wheels before my spokes git loose with my build.
