FXDL Front Suspension

FXDL Front Suspension
Hello All!
I am new to this forum, and I hope someone may be able answer this question.
I own a 2002 FXDL with stock suspension. I would like to "raise" the suspension in the front by only 1/2 inch or so. When I have a passenger, I am left with only about 3 1/2 inches of travel betweem the lower legs (seal) and the lower tree. Is it possible to add a spacer to increase this amount? The front suspension on this model is not adjustable.
A Harley service tech told me that I might replace the front springs with "progressive" stock length springs, or go to a heavier oil. I would rather NOT use heavier oil than what is specified.
Any inputs?
Thanks in advance,
Jack

RE: FXDL Front Suspension
1) welcome to the board, 2) if you haven't changed out your fork oil yet you may want to do it now. get a service manual and follow the fork oil change procedure. recently did mine on an 02 fxd and went to bel ray 10w (stock is 5w). the heavier oil i put in helps with 2 up riding without compromising solo riding. my indy tech also suggested 11 ozs. per fork vice10.6 as per the service manual. it got rid of my clunk. give a meholler on my profile i've got a s/m with your fxdl listed.
