I just installed a "CustomChrome" handle bar control kit with HD chrome switch covers on my '07 bober. Ever since I installed the kit the "Red Key" light stays on. What does this mean? I do not have a security system.

Also there is a pressure switch on the clutch side that I had to drill a hole for in the switch cover but the new clutch lever does not hit the pressure switch. Does anyone know what the switch does? The bike runs fine without the lever hitting it.

 

Could mean you have an error code, some type of short maybe. I know there has been post on how to get the error codes and what they mean.

 

Does your speedo and dash have power? I had the same problem with a handle bar install and mine turned out to be a short in the turn signal wires at the switch. Don't know if that'll help you or not...

Sounds like an error code with the computer. It may just have to be reset by the shop.

 

Check the turn sig wires for a cut in the insulation or a pinch in the switches. Red key is Alarm andassociated to the turn sigs. Retrace..

 

Thanks for all your suggestions. I going to pull off the chrome switch housings this weekend and look for pinched wires.

 

I had the same problem a few weeks ago. When in installed my back rest and side plates i didn't tuck the turn signal wires back and my rear tire shredded the wire causing a short.

 

Well thanks for all your responses I finally had to bring into the dealer and they found a short. That taught me to save a buck. $75 later I was out the door and the light was off.

I've had that happen to me before. It turned out to be the rear turn signal wire came loose from under the fenderand was rubbing on my tire. It was starting to wear through and the key light would come on.
