Default 180 tire on a street bob

I want to go up to a 180 tire, Avon Venom. Harley sells a wide tire kit for $250 and it comes with a dunlop tire, is there anything else that comes in the kit or is it just the tire? do I even need it or will the 180 avon just fit right in?

The Dunlop is a SE version and is very soft. It rides great, but it won't last. The kit comes with a few bolts that have thinner heads for tire clearance in the fender. My dealer tried to force me to buy the kit, but it's not needed on the Wide Glide. Some here say it's not needed for the SB either. I'm sure they're chime in.

You won't believe the difference in how the 180 feels compared to the 160.

I'm running the SE 180 with no kit on a Street Bob and I have had no problems. One thing though, to my knowledge the SE 180 is the only tire that will fit the stock 4.5" width rim. The Avon probably requires a 5.5" rim. Something to think about.

No kit required on mine either. When I bought mine, the SE Dunlop was the only choice due to the narrower rim on the SB

Just curious can you get any other Dunlops in 180 that will fit? I've had really good luck with Dunlop touring tires on my other bikes.

I just had a 180 Metz installed on my bike. The dealer did not sell me the "kit". He was able to use two brackets that cost about $15.00 from the kit. I also went to an 18" wheel, but I have to say, between the wheel and the tire, it fills the fender nicely:

Here's everything. You can get by with just changing the tire. Prices below are from Zanotti's.

40502-06 Dunlop Tube $ 17.12

43101-06 Dunlop Rim Strip $ 1.00

59514-06 Rear Fender Inner sideplate (one for each side of the inner fender) $9.87each

just replaced my SE Dunlop, it lasted aout 6500 miles. Wanted an Avon but they do not make a 180 on a 17 inch rim. Went with a Continental, currently have mixed feelings. That Metzlerr looks good may reconsider here shortly. I do like that the Continental has more arc on it thouogh, lets me lay over in corners faster than the SE.

180 dunlop... go with the avon or metzler... bettter tire, love the way this one handles hate the way it wears... I had to go in back at the dealer and put the damb tire on myself cause the mechanic kept telling me that it would not fit and the people on forums lie.... he looked like a moron when i did it myself! (well i did not balance it myself, the shop "kid" did that for me for $20) no matter what they tell you it will fit... you may have to rewire the signals though, i ripeed mine out on the way home (figured i would) but i re ran the lines when i got home no problem!
