You can use dental floss. I use a thin putty knife between the reflector and the tape
then use wd-40 to get the remaining tape off.

BE CAREFUL, if you damage the Denim Black paint you are hosed. There is no buffing it
out anything.

Good Luck

The 2005 Harley Davidson Shop manual says that there is a 3M tape solvent that is made to remove the 3M tape that most HD stick on stuff is put on with. I would think you could get it at any parts store. The manual says spray the solvent on the area where the stick-on is, wait a couple of minutes then peel it off. If it is stubborn a little dental floss or light fishing line behind the item to be removed will help. After the item is removed, use the solvent to get any residue tape off.

These instructions were in the 2005 Touring service manual for removing the badge that is on the rear fender of some of the touring models. I would think it would work for your application.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Bill

I want to do the same thing but I have some reservations with the black denim paint. Has anyone done this yet? I don't believe the paint will be "peeled" off but I don't want to be kicking myself in the a$$. Don't have the bucks to get a repaint.

Thanx TC. I'm just really worried about the black denim paint. The forks will be nothing. Appreciate the step by step.

Thanx

Thanks also. I just wonder if the 3M adhesive remover will affect the denim paint in any way? I wonder if Goo B Gone would work also? That stuff works great every other time I had used it. It does leave an "orange/citrus" residue though. That's what I'm worried about affecting the paint.

You may want to try a blow dryer and heat it up nice and warm , then with a piece of dental floss or fishing liine, snag it under the edge and lift the emblem off the tank. The remainder of the attachment tape you should be able to roll off using your finger while it is warm.

Just be carefull here as you lift one end, the other end will dig into the paint, so put a credit card under the opposite end of the emblem to protect the paint. Here's where three hands would be a blessing

Probably anything you use as far as a solvent or the likes will shine the area to a degree where you are working, so try this first.
