Default Oil Temp Gauge for 06-later Dyna

I have been looking around on the HD sites, Ebay, etc. for a dipstick-style analog oil temp gauge for my 07 Street Bob. Just wanna have a reference point for normal oil operating temp.

HD does not "appear" to make one. Both HD and Ebay have nothing for over the 2005 year (blue LED read-out: yuk).

Anyone know of any aftermarket maker of a simple dipstick oil temp gauge?

Isn't that frustrating? I have noticed the the 2006 model year Dyna's don't have near the accessories available that other models do.

I was at the dealership last week sometime and I noticed they do have a temperature gauge now with the housing. It is not just the stick you have to take off the housing also. It was on display at the parts counter. I guess it's so new it's not in the catalog. I didn't think to write down the number or anything. I do remember it is chrome though!

Just curious, why do you need to know what your oil temp is? And if you just want a reference, is there a way you could get a 1 time reading of the temp? Or do you want to have it as a reference and be able to check it later to make sure you aren't running too hot?

I guess I just haven't considered this. The way I look at it is, if I can't do anything to change it, why care what it is? But that's typical of me.

That makes sense, Q. I guess you're right. It's a reference point I'm looking for, then it would be just to make sure I never get much above that unless I hit adverse riding conditions. If so, I'd at least know to settle down before the temp got high enough to do any damage.

Makes sense. Have you only checked HD or have you checked aftermarket, non-HD?

Also, in that thread, here is a quote about it: "Pass on the oil temp dipstick, doesn't work with a Sh*&! I had one and never once close to being accurate and lots of error codes."

Checked HD, and a bit of aftermarket, but I have yet to grab my J&P catalog.

Don't bother, I just checked the Jireh and the J&P 08 catalogs and nobody has them. Several models explicitely say "fits thru 08 except Dyna Glide". It must have something to do with the fact that our dipsticks are articulated and they can't make a temp guage do that and be reliable?

I bought an extra long cooking thermometer. When I come back from a long ride on a hot day, I can quickly check the temp. Cost about $3.
