Heat shields...or something else?
Hey guys!
Before I put my bike away, I put on some Bassani pipes. But I ordered heat shields for 'em, and I got sent the wrong ones. I could return them, but I'd be going really out of my way, and it's been months. So I'm thinking of selling them on here and doing something different.
I have heat wrap that I could use to cover up the headers, but I don't want to deal with damage down the road. What are my other options? Spray painting them with BBQ paint? Leaving them as is? (The discolouration kinda looks cool) What else?
Thanks!

Put the factory-correct heat shields on them and continue to march.

You're absolutely right. Tack that on to the list of spring mods.

Just a quick question on the heat wrap.
I read that the heat wrap makes it hotter in the exaust and that the sytem burns more efficently and increase of HP.
These new Harleys run hotter with the lean EPA manadated settings.
Why would you want to run hotter?
I installed new Black Rush slip-ons and use the stock heat shields and it look OK.
I'm installing a new oil cooler now and also purchased the nightrider O2 richeners
and plan to stay cool this summer.
Doesn't the extra heat of the wraps hurt rather than help?

Just going off of what I have read on here, but apparently the pipes can "possibly" crack and such after a period of time with the wrap on them. I don't think anyone is wrapping their pipes for the HP increase. Although, the wrap is designed for header applications and used in race cars.
I used the wrap only for looks. If it ruins the pipes down the road, I will get new ones. Yay me!!
