first rule - oil is oil, so don't buy into the hype.

second - If they have the right grade oil then use it if you like but at this point I will refer you back to rule #1 stated above.

IMHO unless your getting an incredibly good price on it stick to what you use now until this oil is proven worthy.

"...I want synthetic oil
One that won't make me sick
One that won't make me crash my car
Or make me feel three feet thick

I want synthetic oil
One that won't hurt my head
One that won't make my mouth too dry
Or make my eyes too red..."

It must have what cars crave!

The correct oil level is when the oil reaches the bottom of the clutch diaphragm spring. For my 88 it's usually about 26 oz.
No comment on Mobil 1, haven't used it, happy with Amsoil in the engine.

Minor is spot on about using exactly 26 ounces of oil in the primary - NOT a full quart as many on this thread have recommended.

According to the HD factory Service Manual for my 2000 Twin Cam Dyna Wideglide:

"The primary chaincase lubricant should be level with the bottom edge of the clutch diaphragm spring, approximately 26 oz. (768.9 ml)."

More from the HD factory manual:

"CAUTION: Do not overfill the primary chaincase with lubricant. Over-filling may cause rough clutch engagement, clutch drag and/or difficulty in finding neutral at engine idle."

I notice a lot of contributors here recommending adding a full quart of primary fluid. That is 6 oz (almost 25%) too much!! Makes me wonder if that has more to do with the complaints about rough shifting/clutch engagement than the type of oil used in the primary.

I just changed out the primary fluid in my 2000 Dyna WG (used B&M Quickshift non-synthetic), measured exactly 26 oz and confirmed that the fluid just touched the bottom of the clutch diaphragm spring with the bike level. Went for a long ride. The bike actually spun the rear tire (150 Metzeler) in second gear for the first time ever (30k miles on the odometer). I'm a believer!

Stop overfilling your primary! The right amount of fluid (only 26 oz.) made a big difference for me.

Default What oils do you guys use ?

It's spring in New England, and time to change all the fluids in my '06 Dyna Super Glide. Just wondering what the general consensus is on oils in the crank, tranny and primary ?

You may have better luck asking how many angels can dance on the head of a pin

About all anyone can relate to you is what their experiences are. I've had great results with Redline V-Twin Transmission w/shockproof in the transmission, Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10w-40 synthetic in the primary and last season I was running LiquiMoly 10w-60 synthetic in the engine. Not sure if I'll go back to Vavoline VR1 SAE50 in the engine this summer but the LiquiMoly worked well in cooler temperaturers with none of the typical increase in top end noise...

First.......you should have changed the oil BEFORE you put your bike away........

Anyway, you're gonna get all kinds of answers, but I've been using this combo for years, and it works well:

Mobil One V-Twin 20w-50 in the engine

Spectro Platinum 6-Speed in the tranny

HD Formula + in the primary
