Default Inner Primary Cover

I am planning to replace my inner primary cover with a chrome inner primary cover. Are there any special tools required?

I do have the shop repair manual and basic tools. I was wondering if the job requires any special tools such as bearing presses, etc.

This would be on a 2008 Dyna Lowrider.

Thanks!

I had mine done by the dealer (figuring they would do it right), so can't help you on the process . But, I can tell you to be sure you take your time with the seals. Had to take mine back twice because they screwed up the shift shaft seal both times, causing a leak.

You will need a primary lock tool. Several have easily made their own versions of this tool. The tool is specific for the 06 and later Dyna (07 and later other models) twin cams. The tool for earlier models can do damage. I also believe you need a 30mm sockeet. There is a complete write-up by a forum member named silverbullet2005 in the do-it-yourself tech help section.

gonna also need a 1/2" breaker bar for the compensator nut(possiby a impact wrench depending on how tight it is and your personal elbow grease)... You can get the bearings and seals pressed in at the stealer then take home and install... If the tools are gonna be close to install price you may just want to pay someone to do it instead. Also a good torque wrench if you don't have one... the tools add up.

I had my indy guy do it and he charged me about 1.5/2 hours labor.
Couldn't beat that price considering the primary lock tool was something like 60 bucks or more and I don't have the resources to make my own.

It's not a big deal Cornel.

Have a look at your stator while you're in there
(your 08 is probably the good one- welded)

Have a good look at the inner primary bearing and race,
you're probably good there as well.

the locking tool is simply a 7" long x 1" wide x 1/4" flat stock.

Follow the manual, you'll be fine.

Make sure the chain is completly inside the case before torqueing the stator or you might take a chunk out the case. Don't know how I know that.

It's not that hard to do as long as you have the service manual to help guide you along. BTW, now would be a good time to install some forwards if you don't have them.
