The problem with both designs is how to have a rubber mounted transmission with a solid mount tire and then run a belt between them. The FXR used big rubber clevite bushings on the swing arm bolt through the frame. It had a tendency to wear out or at least get soft. The mods were to basically tighten that up, thus putting more vibration to the rider. I have a few years experience on an FXR and it had one major problem. When you let off the throttle at high speed, it had a tendency to jump around abit. Where you could really notice it was nailing it on an entrance ramp and then letting off. Especially if it curved. I think I would rather ride two abreast with my Dyna than with my old FXR. Just my opinion.
By the way, did anyone notice this thread is 1 1/2 years old? I'd put my 2005 modified FXDX clone with fork brace and True-track up against any FXR on a twisty mountain road.
It would cost more to bring an FXR up to that level than it cost you for your mods. Even back then.
I saw this forum during a Google search lol. I bought an 83 fxrs a few years ago dirt cheap. Haven't drove it yet still working on it still working on it. It's far from stock lol, anyone interested on knowing about it let me know.
I am in the middle of an FXR build, and I love my bike, but it is way more expensive to build out an FXR all the way than it is to build out an equivalent twin cam dyna, or just buy a brand new Low Rider S.
