I took off my rotors and pulley to paint and loctited and retorqued them with no problems. I took them all off a second time and loctited and torqued them again and haven't had any problems. I used 1 drop of red loctite on each rotor bolt and like 3 drops on each sprockett bolt.

Loctite doesn't keep bolts from snapping as the pulley bolts tend to do when they are retourqued.

I just don't get why people would risk their life and machine on such inexpensive bolts...

Default Rear Pulley Bolts

People... PLEASE.. DO NOT RE-USE THESE BOLTS!

Besides the countless of people who have warned you not to, I am a living example of WHY you DON'T want to take the chance and re-use any of the REAR BOLTS.

I have a Deuce that is maintained to the hilt! I had the Harley Hex Bolts on the Rear Pulley.

I was going 75 mph and heard a loud BANG while on the freeway! I BARELY managed to get the bike off the freeway safely

Pulled over thinking it was a flat. Turns out all of the bolts came undone and completely sheared off the hub completely cracking the hub, swingarm, axle -- everything done!
$3,500 later and luckily I am still alive to tell about it. Another couple of minutes the rear wheel may well have jammed and thrown me off the bike.

It's just not worth it for a $29.00 bolt. Change it everytime. Please!!

Happy Riding.

This thread is on rotor bolts not pulley bolts which is quite a different situation. It is still cheap insurance to use new fasteners (8.25), but in a pinch I would not hesitate to re-use these bolts if you cleaned up the threads, use blue thread lock and properly torque them.

Not so cheap insurance for the front rotor bolts 13.75 and spring washers 13.75 on the cast wheel.

Excellent advice. I just bought bolts for my rear disc today and noticed that there was a self adhering agent that reacts when they are heated up from riding. That’s probably why they tell you to buy new bolts.

Why not just use ARP bolts, drill and use safety wire? Your never going to stress the bolts in aluminum so reuse forever. Same as the rotor bolts,
