Default Progressive Fork Springs - How much fork oil to use?

Hi All,

I am about to install progressive front fork springs in my Street Bob.
I thought that while I am installing the springs I might as well change to SE fork oil.
Since progressive springs displace more oil, does anyone know how much fork oil to use with new progressive springs?
Progressive recommend using special oil measuring tool, but I don't have one.
So if anyone has done the install and measured the amount of fork oil required, I would appreicate the heads up.

Thanks
Vlad

Are there any recommendations located in the install instructions? I believe your stock requirement is 26.6oz in each leg. You may want to contact Progressive about that.

You don't "need" a special tool, use a tape and a light. The level they recommend is 5" from the top(I seem to remember) .67" less than stock, put 23oz in per leg, pump 8-10 times, fully compress, and measure 5" down, add what you need to bring it up to spec.

If you buy stock length springs, they won't drop the front at all.

There is two flavors of the progressives. the stock length = no drop and the "lowering kit" which will drop it up to 2", you cut the spacer to size. Which did you buy?

Btw, PTE, you may want to revisit your #1.

Both kits tell you to use the stock fluid height (unless there has been a change in the instructions)? Also when you measure the level it is without the spring or spacer installed. Why do you want to go to SE (15wt) fluid?

I find front suspension to be way too soft. Hence progressive springs and "heavier" fluid.

progressives with 15wt. will ride like a dump truck and skip over bumps. Better off using stock weight oil. You can cut your spacers that come with the spring kit to better set your sag(preload). If you cut the spacer to the firmest recommended length above the fork tube, you will have a firm ride. It will be like setting your rear shocks on the firmest preload setting.
