Default does brand of brake fluid matter

I realize sujbective opinion quesition, but does it matter what brand of brake fluid you use? I know that is important to use the right DOT number (for me DOT 5) but I wondered about the brand to use.

I figured any brand from the Auto store would work fine. Thoughts?

just make sure you are using the right DOT (3, 4, 5) you can not mix some or it will turn to a gell in the lines... and is IMPOSSIBLE to get out... trust me on that one... i see it alot on older bikes... blows

funny I never even looked to see what type is in my bike before. What I do know about the differences in the fluids is that you can mix DOT 3 and DOT 4, in fact some bottles are labeled BOTH numbers and you can NOT mix DOT 5 with 3 or 4 as previously stated.

The main difference is DOT 5 is non-hygroscopic, meaning it will not absorb moisture. Sounds good, but not necessarily. If it will not absorb moisture then and moisture that gets in will condense, maybe even go all to one area and corrode your system on the inside and the possibility of fade-away is greater because of the compression characteristics of water vs. brake fluid.

I don't even think I would recommend switching from one to the other, even with a complete flush although theoretically it can be done.

You ain't a-kiddin! DOT 3, 4 and 5.1 can be freely intermingled... but never mix DOT 5 with ANYTHING else.
