Default Used my new homemade jack to paint my forks...

Well I finally did it after putting it off for so long. I made the made shift jack last week using some directions I found on here a while back. I must say it works really well and seems to be very stable.

I painted the forks also using advice I found on here a while back. I used the appliance epoxy like everyone suggested and they came out perfect, until I started putting it back together. I was tightening one of the fender bolts and oops, a nice big scratch right on the side of one of the forks. I was so furious that I did that. Luckily I was able to touch it up using a brush and some of the epoxy paint. Not too noticeable but I'm going to redo the one when I do my 21" wheel upgrade within a month or so.

Thanks to all who have done this already and posted it, you were a great help.

Jacked up:

Covered up and sanded:

Three good coats within 30 mins:

Unmasked:

All done and ready to ride, came out great.

Yeah sure come on by.

Here is the site for the lift:

As for the painting of the forks, just type in "painting forks" in a search and a whole bunch of threads on it will come up.

I made the same jack, cheap and easy. I stapled a cheap carpet mat to mine to prevent scratching.

Nice! How did you prep the forks? Sanding blocks or buffer wheel, or what? Also, what grit?

Is that the epoxy paint? Came out really good man. You could never tell the difference between that and powder coating.

Congrats man. Looks great. I could envision the trees blacked out, leaving just the fork chrome.

I sanded them by hand using 400 grid paper. You just need to get the clear coat off. Then I used a prep solvent to clean them up before I put the first coat on.

Yep it's the Rustoleum Epoxy Appliance paint found at any Home Depot. They came out better then I expected, it's almost like powdercoat in a can, awesome stuff. Just be sure to cover up everything, the over spray goes everywhere!

Yeah I had planned on taking the whole front end apart and having the trees and forks powder coated but it would have been kind of expensive and that would have been a little more down time.

But in the future if I ever have the front end apart I will get the trees coated.
