Default Wide Tire Kit / Signal Relocation

The HD web site says I need to relocate my turn signals if I have a detachable sissy bar and want to install the Wide Tire Kit.

Has anyone installed this kit without doing this?

From HD web site:

Wide Tire Kit - Dyna® Models

Add the wide tire look to your '06-later Dyna® model. The 180mm rear tire fills out the rear fender to add a menacing look from the back. A simple conversion at your first tire change, the kit includes the DUNLOP®/ Screamin' Eagle® GT502 180/60B17 rear tire and the required installation brackets and hardware. This easy-to-install kit fits with the Original Equipment 17" wheel, and requires no frame or powertrain alterations.

My understanding is you do not need the kit. There are several people on hear that have done the swap with out it. With any luck one of them will chime in.

Ditto... as I understand it, if you have the detachable sideplates, you basically have the fender/wiring part of the kit. I'm not sure about any wheel spacers or stuff like that.... I have a 170 on the back of mine, and it fits with plenty of room.

Agree with the rest above, there are several that don't use the kits because the side plates just smash the wires against the fender so they don't stick out. If you have your wires nice and tight you won't need the kit. I just installed the detach kit last week and I kept the stock brass plates on the inner fender and just used the hardware. I got a 3 inch bolt and a 1/4" chrome spacer from the hardware store and here's what came out of it. I also have a touring rear turn sig bar on the way so I'll put the sigs on the back of the fender under the tail light.

Here are a couple diagrams which come with the kit. You can see where the main purpose of the kit is to secure the signal wiring as close to the inner fenders walls as possible.

I had problems with my 160 tire tearing up wiring once I lowered the rear. To correct this once I went to the 180, I moved the rear signals and wiring out of the way all together.

JM, I really like the FLH type turn signals on your bike. Do you have any P/N's for that setup?

I've asked this over and over. I have detachable backrest. I did not get any parts resembling anything in the wide tire kit. I don't see where one would affect the other either.
