Default How fast will a dyna go?

Got mine right at 120 today doing some ignition advance tuning. At that point my helmet faced shield blew up, the bike stopped pulling so hard and i slowed down. Just wondering if some of you reckless souls had yours any faster and how you would know since speedo only reads 120. I might add when i checked the main jet size i realized i had ordered bigger jets last year when i added a Heavy Breather and forgot to put the right jet in!!! There they were, still laying in the carb jet tray. It put out 95HP/102TQ the other day with main jet 2 sizes too lean and timing retarded so it's for certain putting out more power now so it might pull better. I figured 130-135 would be a good top speed.

Also,no animals were harmed in this reckess display of highly illegal speed. Deserted straight stretch of lonely country road.

It's a 95" 5 speed 2005 FXD.

I once had my 1200C with windshield up to just over 105 indicated and it was
still pulling so I'd guess that it *might* do a bit over 110. I'd think that a Dyna
ought to be at least 10mph faster than the Sporty.

Oh, yeah, that was at close to 8,000 feet above sea level so there must have
been at least some loss of power..

I've buried mine well beyond the 120 mark on the speedo.

clocked it in the quarter mile at 114
(still in 3rd gear going through the traps)

Haven't rode it since i put in the bigger (#75 Mikuni)main jet so i'll bet it will keep pulling hard past 120 now. I was getting some very occasional pinging on WOT so i bet thats gone now considering it was too lean. Hard to do main jet testing by holding throttle open a few seconds and rolling off to 7/8 throttle. A few seconds and i'm doing almost 100. I bet you could figure out speed by using some kind of calculation with the tach. So lets hear it you 150 MPH-on-a-harley guys. Gotta be one out there somewhere.

Dam Mud, those numbers are about spot on with what my GTO ran.

Get a hand held GPS. I have a Garmin Rhino 120 and it tracks your top speed. Clear the values and make a run then you will be able to see how far past 120 it'll go.

I can easily go 120 miles an hour, in 6 gear at 4,000 rpm is 120. You need some kind of fairing, and your should have a damping system on the bike. You must not hold the bars tight, getting low on the bike is a must. Harley is not known for top speed in a stock form.

I've had mine to about 115mph & it's tough holding on because I'm like sail in the wind.

Didn't even think of a GPS and i have one that shows highway speed. Anyway i was just doing some jet/ignition tuning. I don't think i'll be running that fast on a regular basis unless i take a trip to Bonneville salt flats. I have a quarter fairing, some FXDX parts plus some more stuff. It's rock steady at that speed.
