Default IPB Warranty Update

Well I took my '06 Bob into the dealer today for a new tire, the 30K service and my IPB warranty fix. I called HQ last week, got a reference number for the repair - I thought I was all set.

Get into the dealer today (they were expecting me) and they checked out (listened) to the bike and agreed it needed replacing. Then they hit me with it...

They are working on one currently... which has been there for TWO WEEKS thus far. They said between tearing about the primary and seeing the damage, creating a parts / order sheet, waiting on parts and then rebuilding it I should expect the same time frame. Of course they won't know anything for sure until they "get in there and inspect the damage". But damn, +/- 2 weeks?

I love that bike, which probably makes it worse than it really is, but I want it to run at its very best so not getting this fixed really isn't an option. The Kansas City plant is about 10 hours from where I'm at and I would totally be willing to go up there myself and pick up the parts if it would speed the process up!

So this is a warning to those with the IPB failure. Be prepared to be without your bike for a while.

Harley waits 5 days BEFORE they send the parts. Then sends them ground shipping. When you ask why... answer is.... "Motor Company Policy".

Me "Scuze me but can I pay for overnight shipping?" Customer Service "No".

Wow... I don't even know how to respond to that policy. Guess I really am renting a cage for a couple weeks.

Has anyone found a way to get the parts sooner?

If you might be able to get them to install the baker bearing, if you buy it and bring it in.

But if your casings need to be replaced, thats a whole new can of worms.

it blows my mind that the part keeps going bad and yet people still keep getting the same stock bearing put in... why not upgrade to a baker bearing?!

And they're cheap too, something like $40-50 for peace of mind on a 06.

I think I paid $32.00 It's an NTN bearing PN/ 6205Z You can probably pick one up from a bearing house for 15-20 bux.

Sin;

Are they fixing it on their dime? Did HD Cust.Svc. say they'd just do the bearing/race, or are they going to do the doweled IP and Tranny cases, too.

I would have bought the better bearing and had them install it if I had planned better. This all happened in a matter of a few days. They are also fixing it on their dime, however if it happens again...

I did call and check on it last night before the dealer closed, and was told... it would be ready by lunch time today! They said there wasn't any major damage inside and that me bringing it in right away made all the difference.

I'll report again after I pick it up and see what they say / charge me.
