Stevea,

I would recommend you consider the FXDC, (Superglide Custom), 2007 and above models(it's the model I have). You will get the most bang for your buck with these models imho. Large engine, EFI, Larger forks, tank mounted speedo etc...

here is one on ebay going for 8999.00

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Harle...Q5fmotorcycles

Looks like a great deal to me.

Cheers,

Tom

I moved from a 2005 Suzuki Volusia to a 2004 Fat Boy. While it's not exactly like the bikes you mentioned, I would have to echo others in saying you will be happy with any of those three.

My biggest gain was the increased power you get when going from Suzuki's 50ci engine to the TC88, 96 or bigger. That, and I finally had my Harley.

I prefer country roads here in New England but my somewhat underpowered and not so stable VS800 is not a great choice for long highway rides to get to more of the country roads. In my opinion (everybody has one...) go with the low rider in the years you've already figured. The bike will be lighter and can handle better, the low rider frame in those years has a few degrees more rake than the other dynas, tons of options to customize if you wish and can be made into a competent solo or 2-up tourer...as far as exact year; 02 was the last year for the timkin drive side bearing; important only if you will be seeking triple digit HP numbers and the 5 speed will do you just fine. As far as carb vs EFI; before '06 I'd prefer carb...after there's no choice...but the EFI in the '06 and later bikes is better I believe.

I'm sure it's just a coincidence but it's kind of funny that your two top choices, Low Rider and Deuce, are both discontinued models.

I have some experience with both models as I own a '00 Low Rider and also rode a Deuce in NV and AZ for about 1000 miles. The Low Rider is built on the Dyna platform which as others have pointed out is regarded by most as a better "riders" bike. Also the motor is rubber mounted vs counterbalanced so you do get a couple of extra HP.

Low Rider has mid controls and highway pegs vs the Deuce which has forward controls. Deuce if I recall correctly also has a skinnier front tire.

Both bikes are fun!

If you plan on doing a lot of performance mods the Low Rider is probably the better way to go.

If you like the style of the Deuce you may be happier going in that direction.

Hey man, go with a FXDX. A superglide sport. Best handling in the dyna family. Dual front discs, adjustable shocks, blacked out engine, etc. Go with a carb too, don't go to the dark side (EFI)

deuce or lowrider. As an owner of an 05 Dyna, I would also recommend you get an 06+. The 06 has the 49mm front end, better frame, 6 speed tranny, and is wider which allows for room for a 180 tire. The deuce is a really nice bike too. The deuce will give you less to enjoy through corners and are not quite as Quick as the Dyna.

I love my FXDL. The only thing I find wrong with it is I don't get enough ride time here in New England. Of course, all of us who live here probably say that!

First, do not buy a Deuce, only Deuce parts fit Deuces. Second, for the money you can pick up a nice Dyna. The Softail Standard is a nice bike and I think better. I have had a Dyna, and they do handle better, my opinion. However I am not out sport bike riding on Harley. A Harley is for comfort, and a Softail in just a better ride and more comfortable.

One correction....the 07+ have the 96" twin cam engine w/6spd tranny. The 99-06 bikes were 88" twin cam. 2006 Dynas also have the 6spd tranny.
