Rawhide07.......
Wow, only 3 months? You have to be very careful installing them. If you get ANY finger OILS on the bulb itself, they WILL FAIL EARLY. Any halogen type bulb will warn you about that. You cant install them like a normal bulb.
We installed a total of 7 PIAA bulbs in 3 bikes in the Spring of 2007. As of the Fall of 2009, NONE have failed. I have seen the Silverstar's and they're nice ones too. The only reason we went with the Piaa, was the claim they're vibration resistant......and you know how Dyna's vibrate.
I changed my first halogen bulb in 1975 in my R90S(BMW),so I do know about the oil/dirt factor,I probably just got a defective PIAA.It happens, thats why I like your driving light idea as a backup.

Ditto on the E-code lens. How the light beam is focused is equally as important as how much light. I run 100/90 bulb with ceramic plug and E-code Hella lens.
A lot of guys from one of the truck clubs I'm in use DDM for HIDS. Havn't had any problems yet. I run HIDS in my Avalanche and love them. Had the Silverstars before that and they lasted about 8 months, won't waste my money on them again.
