Default Install steering damper

I install a steering damper on my bike, it made a big different in straight line tracking. Install it for high speed runs, prevent tank slapping.

Ok, who makes that damper (Storz?), and what year bike is that on? Better pics please.

You can buy a steering dampener for much less than what Storz sells them.....you can buy the dampener from Drag/Pingel/PMFR and buy the fork clamp in the needed size from Pingel/PMFR separately and still come out way cheaper than Storz....I did this for a Buell/Sportster drag bike project........

How effective are steering dampers at preventing high speed wobble? What are pros and cons for general street riding?

I installed this damper to try to stop “tank slapping at high speed” Just to make me feel safe.First of all, you need to know some background on the vibration modes of a motorcycle: specifically, wobble mode. Wobble can be described as a self-perpetuating vibration of the front fork assembly about the axis of the steering stem. A number of variables like tires, loads, and fork geometry affect this mode. Maintaining stability while providing a quick response to steering inputs is the basic trade off in designing the geometry of a front end. Thus, bikes that steer more quickly are more susceptible to wobble, as they operate closer to the borderline between stability and instability of the front end. Also, wobble stability can change with speed, and load. Variables such as wind gusting, vehicle speed and wheel rotation also affect wobble, and certain combination's of these variables can cause a dramatic loss of stability. I have never had any problems with wobble except on my Sporster. Never hold the bars to tight and make sure you are low and out of the wind.

Trying to peice together a steering damper from parts. Anyone know what Pingle dampner (body, total length, stroke) is used on the earlier Dyna kits?

Thanks.
