Installing shocks.
Simple operation.
30 minutes to an hour, taking your time.
.
Here is what I have seen.
.
Most Dyna lovers lay the cash on the dotted line,
then,
more frogskins for...........
first, pipes and intake.
next, improve the saddle.
then, shocks.
.
In the 4 years I have owned my 006 FXD,
I have had 4 or 5 different pairs of shocks mounted.
.
.
..... The last set was the Ohlins S36PR1C1LB .....

.
The Ohlins are real fine components, with several fiddle points for fine tuning....
... preload ... rebound ... compression ... length ...
.
.

..... Now, I am going with the Ricor Generation 3 Inertia Active Technology.....

.
.

.
.
My shocks above have the blue "research/development" spring.
The production shocks come with the black spring, or any other color (as an option).
Price is $ 629.99
.
Three tune levels are offered - Cruiser, Sport, and Super Sport.
Several different lengths from 11" to 13 1/2".
Right now I have the Sport tune at 13".

.
.
So here is step by step, shock off - shock on, illustrating my technique.
.
Lift the machine. Support wheel.
Cover anything that may be damaged if you drop something.
Remove the shocks.
.
.

.
.
Use tap to clean the old Threadlocker out then spray with BrakeKleen.....
.
.

.
.
Tools needed to perform this operation are minimal..............
.
.

.
.
Hardware below.
New bolts if needed.
On my 006 FXD, these are 1/2 inch..13...3 1/2 inch upper..2 1/4 inch lower.
standoffs, washers.
.
.

.
.
Threadlocker, 243. One good drop, as shown, don't overdo it.
.
.

.
.
Torque Values for my 006 FXD.......
upper.....75-85 ft lbs
lower.....30-40 ft lbs
.
.

.
.
installed below.....

The blue springs on mine is the color Ricor was using during the research/development phase.
I like the color, it compliments the Arrest Me black tins nicely.
Brian tells me the Standard color will be Black,
with other colors available as well...........
.
.

.
.
While the machine is still on the lift, remove the support under the wheel, so the shocks extend to full length.
Now, below, establish a witness point, for the sag adjustment.
...........
.
.

.
.
Done.
.
.
......032510........edit to add.................
.
Above pix are the Research and Development version ..

Below is the final design. Off the shelf, the springs are black.

The link under this picture goes to the Ricor Site, with more info....

I made a couple videos..............................

bitchen Mud - Im way interested in these. Need to speak with Brian I guess. I gotta ask though - If I had the ohlins you have, why would you go to these? They look to be a major improvement over stock shocks, but not sure they compete with the ohlins you have, do they?

Mud,

Maybe you've posted this elsewhere, but I haven't seen it. I'm wondering if you have a deal with Ricor to review their products. So for full disclosure, did you pay full retail for these shocks?

Now somebody is going to want to jump on me for implying that you're not honest in your reviews - So in advance that is NOT what I am saying.

There is absolutley nothing wrong or biasing in taking free or discounted samples to review, I just think that if that is the case it needs to be stated.

Agreed. I'd like a nice plush cruising setup type ride.

Thanks for the great post. I was thinking about changing to the Ohlins when I replace my tires before the spring and I would be real interested in how you compare them to the Ricors.

bm, I change the machine around on a regular basis.

I've had 5 different shocks over 4 years,
4 sets of bars,
4 - 5 seats
2 fuel tanks
fenders
saddlebags/cans
guages
etc
etc

Don't know yet if these will equal the Ohlins,
it's raining here now and they have only been on for a few days.

I'll evaluate the performance for you as soon as possible.

Steve, Ricor sent these to me for outside evaluation.
If I do find them to be acceptable,
I am considering the final production version which are refined a bit from these.
Not a bad price either at about six and a quarter.

No, I won't lie about my opinion on the performance.

my thumb DN. better than an arm or a leg. I guess.

I'm gonna make one squashed down so I can hang it out of one of my saddlecans
(I know you've seen those legs and arms that some folks hang out of their trunks)

cast with bowling ball resin.
I make them in all colors.

one of them , I cast the key to my SuperGlide in.

Another idea I have is to cast in a thumb drive storage device.........

Mud I hope you didn't hear me say I thought you would. I'm looking forward to your review as I'm currently saving for shocks.
