tachometer installon 99 dyna, anyone have a wiring diagram?
hello.
i have a 99 dyna FXD, did not come with a tach. i just bought a tach off a 2000 dyna low rider. the tach part number is 67042-99 it sopposed to be for a 99-03 dynas and sportsters. the tach has a socket on the back for a harness to plug into with 6 pins i belive. here is a pic of the back of my tach.
and then i found this diagram, but it just says fxdl, it dont say a year. and the diagram only shows 5 wires, but the tach has 6 pins. by the looks on the diagram all the wires for the tach can me jumped right from the speedo harness. is it really this easy? does the 99-03 dyna have the "serial data" wire? other than that one the rest of the wires are just various power and ground wires.
does any one have any info on how to put this tach on my bike?
im putting this in the electrical forum as well, maybe some one over there has some info.

Eric,
I have the Clymer 1999-2003 manual. I don't have a scanner right now so I'll try to explain in words:
Wiring diagram for 1999-2000 FXD models shows three wires on tachometer:
1 wire color is Orange
1 wire color is Black
1 wire color is Pink
My 2003 H-D repair manual shows on the tachometer:
pin 1 = power, color Orange, runs to:
+ on oil lamp, + on neutral lamp, pin 6 on mainharness connector
pin 2 = ground, color Black, runs to:
ground pin 8 on speedo, - on right turn signal indicator, pin 12 on mainharness connector
pin 3 = tach signal, color Pink, runs to:
pin 7 on main harness connector, from here to pin 12 on black ignition module connector
If needed, I could have the scan made on Friday at work; let me know (by PM or in this thread) if you need it and I'll sent you a copy or convert the pdf it into a jpg.file and put it in this thread.
