michelin scorcher tires
#81
Old thread, but for purpose of adding info I'll report that I've changed my Michelin Scorcher 31 on my FXDC'11 after just short of 13k mi. I could have gotten maybe 1k mi more on the front, but decided to change anyway. No burnouts, I'd say average riding, not aggressive, not too slow.
Made a point of checking pressure almost every ride, I believe it helped.
Weight is also a factor, and my "only" 160lbs helped as well too. I'm pretty sure heavier folks get less mileage out of their tires.
Remarks on the Scorcher:
- noise/vibration while in low speed turns: worried me at the beginning, got used to after a while, no impact on handling/grip, happy since it was one of the very few abnormal noises/vibrations I could identify the source of on my bike
- grip on wet : rubbish
- grip on dry : ok, never gave me the feeling I could trust the tires to drive aggressively somehow
Now I've just mounted front and back Dunlop 401. Not enough mileage to report anything yet, just getting the slippery layer to wear off for the mo.

I've got almost 10k on my Scorchers and have about 3-4/32 left on the front and rear. I'm a big boy and I carry a back pack with my for trips. I have not noticed the buzzing sound, but I can't hear much over the pipes and wind. I'm probably pretty easy on tires, except for locking up the rear twice...

The scorcher's get really good mileage,i swaped them out for Meltzer's at 6000 front and back and the rear still had life in it.the front was in great shape.the Meltzer's didn't last very long. Now i'm running there current stock tire's,the Dunlop's.The scorcher's handled a bit better and last longer.Only gripe with the scorcher's is the buzz noise on the turning that the h-d emblem make's that is embedded on the edge or the thread. You get used to it though.

i had 11k on my rear stock scorcher with probably 2k left of easy riding. had the commander 2 for all of 1200 miles before ditching for a metzler because of traction problems. had no trust in it after a couple slips in curves, some at low speed. got about 5500 going on my metzler with about 2k life left. ill take stick over life any day.
