Default dash center console Mod 2001 Low Rider.

Not sure why Harley did not do this but id like to-

I replaced the rubber piece under the dash center console and as you can see from the pic how sloppy it looks with all those wires going under-

can i cut a small upside down (U) so those wires fit nicely under. also what tool would handle such a small clean cut-

Drill press with a hole saw would probably be the easiest and get the cleanest result. Then you could straighten the U with a dremel. I'd probably start by buying a grommet and sizing the hole to fit - I'd expect some chipping of the chrome at the cut edge and the grommet (cut to a U as well) would both cover that and provide a little more protection for the wires.

My advice would be:

use a round file

or a dremel tool and a milling cutter or a diamond cutter

to make one or more notches in the lower edge of the console..

Default U-Channel

I would use a half round file unless you have a big rat tail file. The hole saw will probably chip the chrome badly but would be the easiest. You need to decide the thickness of the cables so you can cut the channel just that deep. If you have a Dremmel tool you can tape the area and use a small metal cutting wheel (as shown above by Rene) to rough it out and finish with the file. BTW a cutting wheel might discolor the chrome from the heat.
