I'm in the process of moving the stock "mud-flap" license plate holder on my '09 Street Bob to a side mount.

I bought a vertical axle mount bracket from Road 6 Custom and a LED license plate frame from Radiantz.

The bracket bolts on in 5 minutes or less.



The wiring for the frame takes some more thought. I'll get some heat shrink tubing to protect the exposed part of the wires before installing. I'm hoping to get the wiring done tonight.

The cost of all parts is less than $60.

The rest of the plan was to mount the license plate and Radiantz LED frame to the bracket. Then wire it up.

Not as easy as I thought.
1. The Radiantz frame is too small for the TX license plate. So I got out the tin snips and trimmed the plate.
2. The mounting fasteners that Radiantz supplies are not standard. None of my Allen keys worked on their screws and their screws wouldn't thead into their nylock nuts.

I'll have to go down to Home Depot and get some stainless steel fasteners to mount the frame.

This is a photo of a trial fit of the frame on bracket after trimming the license plate down to the frame size.



One healthy sneeze and the license plate and frame would fall off the bracket since the Radiantz mounting hardware would not thread together.

I felt the need to ride the bike to work today, so I did an "emergency install" (without the frame) just to get me on the road again. It looks like this.



First stop after work is to buy some fasteners that work.

 

The Radiantz license plate frame is wired up and ready to ride in the dark.

I've used it for the past 4,500 miles. I added a plywood base after 2,000 miles.

You can disconnect the factory plate light now that you moved it so you won't have that shinning down anymore.


I cut and painted my 09 tail light, but it's coming off this weekend completely.


Good job, I hated the factory location. It was one of the first mods I did.



BTW, for those looking for another lighted frame..I bought mine from custom dynamics for $27 bucks. Made my own bracket to bolt up, and was into the entire deal for $35 bucks (shipping). The CD plate frame comes with hardware as well.

how did you get the light assembly to match the denim black? that looks really good man, looking at doing this mod, nice job bike looks awesome is it that stock ride hight?
