Default 05 Dyna 88 Twin oil change issues?

So I went to change the oil in my 88 today and no issues with the transmission, but when it came to the engine what a hassle! Warmed up the engine for a min or two to get the oil warm and thought it was draining fine.... not so much. I capped it and filled it up and before I got a quart and a half in it was full to the brim. Cranked but not fired the engine to move the new oil around and endstate got a quart and a half in. My dip stick was reading over but no oil would drain out the bottom (issues right). Ran the engine to warm it up for a couple mins and road it up and down the street finally after a bit of draining got it down to a normal level. I dont remember having issues prior to this and not the first time i have changed oil.......... What did i do wrong? And I am 100% sure i was draining and filling the right fluids. HELP?

Take out the dipstick so you have a vent that will let the oil flow. Drain it all out and start over.---cheers---jack

You were draining the oil from the plug on the side of the pan, not the one on the bottom correct?

I totally understand that, but if he can't handle that......
The sump only drains at most 6-8oz of oil I would think that if he only saw that much in the drain pan he would have known something was up.
You think maybe he drained the trans instead?

Remove oil filter and dipstick.
Drain.

And then smoke weed after its done. Not before.

No hard feelings my friend. Its all for fun.
