sbaalman, thanks for posting pics of the progress on your fairing/windshield. I just picked up a 2008 FXDF and have been looking for a 1/4 fairing for the dual headlights. This elusive item is nowhere to be found, and it looks like no one has created one yet. Some say putting a fairing on the FXDF is heresy, but I personally think something like a 1/4 fairing would look good and redirect enough air to make a difference while at speed. Your work has given me a couple ideas and I may even try to make one myself. To each their own!

I'll check back for updated pics once you have it on the bike. Good luck.

sbaalman, I like the Mustang seat you have and I have a question about it. I was looking at the same seat setup for my bike, 07 Lowrider and I was wondering how much higher you are with it over the stock seat? I am a giant at 5'4" and while I would like a more comfortable seat I do not want to change the seat height by much. Thanks...

Here are the pics of the modified fairing after making a cutout for the dual lights. It now sits about 3-4 inches lower and a little forward from the earlier mounting setup. There is almost no buffeting now (some around 70-80mph) and no pressure on my chest. I took a top-down pic of the mounting setup I made. I did buy the 1-1/4" handlebar brackets for the upper mounting on the handlebar, but the rest I made from 1/4" steel rod, rod clamps, some lag bolts, 1-1/2" pipe clamps (lower mounts are attached to the risers), rubber grommets, and bicycle seat clamps. I still need to paint the lower bolts black on the front of the fairing, and paint the rest of the mounting structure black behind the fairing.

I also installed the HD premium oil cooler when I did an oil change along with some IP-54 rated weather and dust proof fans. I still need to wire up the fans with a toggle switch. The fans are for when I'm stuck in the wonderful Vegas traffic. Will post pics of the cooler/fan setup later.

The revised fairing is 100x better than the original setup. I have the detachable HD shield and I have to say it's ugly and useless. Good lookin bike man!

Cool! My friend the Highway Patrolman would say "now you better move your turn signals DOWN."

Robert Le Gras is right. NOW you just need to do a front signal relocation... It just never ends does it???
