Well it is my understanding that engine light means code in ECM where security light means code in tsm. I have not had a check engine light come up, but when my security light stayed on I ran a code check and it was related to the tsm.
Well just had mine go off on me (red key that is).
On my trip last weekend hit a bad bump and bottomed out ripping the rear turn sigs wires. Blew fuses and wires were severed. Had no lights, turn sigs or horn.
Only the red key light was on.
When I switched the bars and controls on my bike I opted to do away with the clutch safety switch. I figured it would be ok to wire the two wires for the switch together so that is what I did. That caused the key shaped light to come on and stay on while the bike was running. So I just cut the wires apart and fixed that problem.
i know this is old, but does this key light coming on mean i have the factory security? FXD came without a fob from the seller, but the key light comes on everytime i turn the bike on before i hit the start button.
I have a 2011 FXDWG and no alarm, but I have the option to have one installed. The Speedos are all common in the Dyna series. My Key light comes on when ignition is turned on as well as the fuel injector light, it goes off when the bike is started.

No. The key is common. If you had security you would not be able to start the bike without the fob. If the key light stays on even after you start the bike , it means you threw a code.
Mine always comes on. I'm on the 6th floor of my parking garage....so I normally put it in neutral and ride it down to the garage door to let it warm up. The light will come on half way down and go off the second I put it in first when I pull out.
