Default Help removing tank on 03 dyna lowrider

im removing my tank later on tonight, as far as i can tell things seem fairly simple.

id like to know about the removal of the fuel gauge and tips for removing the chrome trim ring around the filler cap (razor blade and heatgun?)

im removing the tank to scotchbrite it and shoot it satin black, but also need to sand off the decals under the clear coat first and level the paint out.

is there anything i should look out for, or is it not too much hassle to remove. im mainly bothered about the electrical connectors to the dash

any help would be greatly appreciated

Everything under the dash should just unplug unless someone has changed it before.
The biggest pain removing a tank is the crossover tube up front. Get a couple vise grips or similar to clamp both sides and cut in the middle, drain 1 side at a time A small funnel is helpful.
It really is a piece of cake once you take a look at everything.

To get your decals off use a heat gun don't sand, and the fuel gauge just pops out but you will have to take the pins out of the connector or cut the wires and as fas as taking off the tank just clamp the cross over line and cut it and take it off

Some Dyna's have the decals under the clear coat. Like my FXDX. Heat gun won't work.

Very true, my painter recommended cutting around the decal with an exacto knife, then scuffing and filling.

piece of **** to take off. only took me 20mins. i pulled the little chrome ring off under the fuel cap, and it was stuck n with a sticky foam pad, as i pulled it off the top layer of paint came with it. i thought maybe this is just peeling cos it has had petrol enar it. i started to peel more and more, and it just started to flake off, like a shell on top of the metal flake coat. I dont know what type of paint it was, but i stripped that layer off in about 20mins, me n the girlfriend stood side by side with sprak plug spacers picking the paint off. it left the coat underneath totally smooth and ready to use as a primer.
all the tins are ready for their last coat of satin black. ill post pics soon

excitedddddddddd
