This has been a real education to read, and thanks to all the posters. I really like the retro look of the 500 and the fit of my new Vortex. The Bell 1/2 helmet is the most mushroomy of any helmet I've seen. After this I'll compare a Fulmer and a Bell 500 for a 3/4 I can trust and that actually looks kewl.

Trash Rat,

How's the extra small fitting now? Looking at the 500 and my noggen is at 21-1/2" as well. How tight was the fit new?

Thanks for any input!

Hey guys,

This is my first post in this great forum. I read through this thread and found some useful tips but still was not sure what to do!

My head circ. is exactly 22" (56cm) and according to Bell's helmet sizing chart it falls under SM. I pulled the trigger and ordered from ebay the Gloss Black with size SM. I am not from USA and this helmet will shipped all the way to my homeland and it will take around 1-2 weeks and there is no way to return it back in case the size is not perfect.

My worry is, did I order the right size? Will this fit me snug or tight? Anyone has the same head size? Please advice, regards

Not the same size head but a small is 55 - 56 cm so you ordered the right size.
I think you're good to go

Just to throw in my 2 cents. I have the Bell Custom 500 Stunt and I love it. Doesn't seem to fit high on head. At least from a couple of riding buds. I am looking at the Licks 3/4 and the Rockhard American 3/4 as well. From what I have read they fit even lower.

Old thread but good info. A half shell or a full coverage have usually been my options, but this new lid from the moco got me interested.

After reading through all these pages I've pulled the trigger on this one. Can't wait to try it out - only other option considered was a Easy Rider replica.

First time I saw the #1 was on Willie's Boat Tail glide back in '71, and I still love seeing it along with that red, white, and blue paint scheme. I had a wallet calendar with a pic of that thing on a drag strip. It was love at first sight...

I had several of the Bell 500's, and they were good, but then I bought this Lick's Cycle 3/4 helmet, and it's even better. I honestly think the materials and the construction are higher quality. My first Bell 500 started coming apart after only a year's use. (in NC, we ride all year round)

I think it fits better too. I can't recommend it enough.

(oh, and before anybody makes a smartass comment, that is my daughter...)
