Need help with P0122 TP Sensor Open/Low EFI code
#11
Sensors have been known to fail ... if the throttle position sensor is not registering the correct info to the ECM, the computer won't know the amount of fuel to send to the injectors ... it all makes sense to me ....
Don't know how much the TPS sensor is; but, I replaced my crank position sensor (with only 27,000 mi) for $57 and installed it myself ....

You don't need the break out box, it would be nice and make life easy, but you can back probe the connectors to give you the same info. It is a pain to back probe and it is better to not disturb the circuit, but you can test the TPS with an ohm meter as well to check for a glitch and it is a quick valid test of the switch. A cheap analog volt/ohm meter works best.
My suggestion is to get a Diagnostic manual too.

It's fixed (knock on wood). I ordered a new sensor, but while waiting for it to ship to me I unplugged and plugged in the TPS sensor. It's been running great ever since. I'm thinking the plug wasn't fully seated. I've ridden it about ten times and it hasn't surged or acted up once and the throttle response came back. I decided to not install the new sensor. I have it just in case but if it's working I don't want to mess with it.
