Default Wheels

Hi guys, got a chance of picking up a pair of good condition alloy wheels for my Low Rider. They're from a 2005 model Dyna but had very little use. Can anyone tell me if they'll go straight onto my 2002 bike without having to swap out the bearings. I'm a bit foggy on where and when the bearing / spindle sizes changes took place.

Thanks
Derv

Rears should be ok, front might need diferent bearings if I am reading this chart right. If you have axle part numbers compare them to the 05 axle numbers. I am out of town so I don't have access to my parts manual, but I am sure someone around here will.

Dave,
Did a little research and found this:

The p/n for the front & rear wheel bearings on my 03 Dyna is 9267. The I.D. is 3/4".

According to this Instruction Sheet the front wheel bearing for a Revolver Ten-Spoke Custom Wheel (fits 05 Dyna's) has H-D p/n 9247;

This text was posted on another forum:
"... 9247 bearing dimensions: 2.04" O.D. x 1" I.D. x 3/4" wide (52 mm X 25.4 mm X 19.05 mm)..."

According to V-Twin catalog page 403 2000-2003 39mm fork Dyna models have 3/4" inch axle. 2004-2005 39mm fork Dyna models have the 1" axle.

Thanks Rene and Hog - looks like I'll be knocking the bearings out then if I get the wheels. May not bid too much on them then in that case.

Bear in mind that you are going to be going to a more narrower wheel = narrower rear tire.
Those wheels are probably only 3" or 3-1/2" wide (can't remember).

06 UP Dynas have the 4-1/2" wide rear wheels for use with the 160 (stock), 170 or the 180 S/E (or now H/D Dunlop) or the Pirelli Night Dragon rear tires.

Just throwing that out there in case you haven't considered it yet.

The front wheel will need the bearings and spacer changed from 1" to 3/4" the rear will go right on.Hope you don't have dual disc up front cuz most dyna's don't.

Nope - not considered that as my Dyna is a 2002 as it says in the orignal post so it already has the 3.5" rear with 150 section tyre

I have a friend of mine who has the stock alloy's from his 2000 Low Rider. They should be in great condition as he switched to a set of PM's after the bike was a year or so old. The rims are in storage, but easily accessible. If the other ones fall through let me know and I can put you in touch with him.

Thanks Bob, but if you're over in the 'States it would cost a fortune to get them here unfortunately

JRK, the wheels I'm thinking of have had very little use, unless there's an inherent problem with HD bearngs they should be good for at 20k miles if greased up properly.
