Default Front Rotor Bolts - switch to Allens

Hi guys,

Im in the process of changing out all my Torx to Allens or 12-point. I've changed just about all I can see except for the front rotor bolts. They seem to be specialized bolts with a "Sleeve" towards the head. I cannot find replacements--except the HD Torx jobs. Apparently for 2007/8 FXDs with cast wheels they used this odd bolt.

Anyone know where I could get these bolts in Allen or 12-point head?

Cheers.

I hate torx bolts, but why spend money to replace bolts that might get turned two or three times during the life of the bike?

I agree...mark them up as "specialty bolts" and ride on!

The thing with the rotor bolts is if they stick out too far they rub!

true enough Fixxr! But, there's actually low-profile 12-point bolts available. They look nice too. Trouble is, I can't find them for the "sleeved" version that I have. Allens would actually fit, but the clearance to the forks (or swing arm in the case of the rear rotor) is diminished.

True too. I like wrenching on my ride and am always in the middle of some modification or other. My bikes are never "finished" so Im always tinkering with them. For me, I like the notion of always Knowing I just need to turn to me SAE wrenches or Allens (or mm version for some things like the forks).

Plus, my bike tool kit is made smaller when on the road.

Come on! surely someone out there has De-Toxed ...opps De-Torxed their 2007 or 08 fxd!!!

Send an email to U-bolts and ask if they have the bolts you need on stock....

First off you are supposed to replace them each time you remove them. They also locate the rotor so the shoulder needs to be the correct diameter and they need to retain the spring washers as well. I would leave them alone unless you can find an exact replacement.

Be a tad careful what you replace them with. Its tempting to use stainless steel but the standard s/s isn't strong enough for this. You need the right grade of steel for this application or you risk having the bolts shear off.

Sorry Kev I dont have the info you are looking for. I did however just replace my stockers with the upgraded HD chrome bolts to match my rotors. They fit nicely though.
