Default Hd Stock vs. Hi Perf Headlight Bulbs w/pics

I got tired of my dim looking stock HD bulb on my 2009 Dyna FXDL and decided to try the HD Hi performance bulb before shelling out $150.00 on a HID. (Part#67074-02 Performance Headlamp Bulb $23.99.)

As you can see by the image, the light is whiter/bluer but not much brighter. It makes sense since both are the same exact wattage. I also turned on both in a dark garage and honestly I could not see a difference in what they illuminated in front of the bulb. I guess only a night ride is going to tell. I'll keep you posted but in the mean time you can make your own judgment from the image.

Anytime the bulb has blue color painted on it to make it appear more white - the actual luminance is reduced. Don't confuse color with brightness. Improving the actual light output can be done by pattern, output and color. HID is good and very economical but still has it drawbacks. The newest, latest and greatest is LED lighting which has many advantages. Check out www.jwspeaker.com for info. They make the HD LED lights. I have one after trying a better bulb and without the bulb refractor which helped a little but not even close to the HD LED light. Once you go LED you won't ever look at HID.

They cost $400-500 depending on the size of your headlight,I'm running a 7" fatboy lamp so for me it would be $500.I'm just going to stick with my Sylvania h4st Silverstar bulb.

So I see that HD has an LED light available for baggers and Sportsters. I wonder why they don't have one for Dynas? I'd replace the stock light on my S'Bob in a New York minute.

Slipped right into my stock 5 3/4" HD headlight bucket on my 09 FXDC. No modifications needed. BTW, black Friday after Turkey day was 20% off the $399 list and the 1st 100 people in got a $20 gift certificate and I sold my stock for $40. So if you do the math, $278 after taxes.

You can always pull the diffuser off your headlamp to make your light brighter. Cost....FREE!
