Default fuel pump problems anyone ?

Hi Folks,

Did anyone ever had problems with the in tank fuel pump ?

I'm planing to make some tank mods that will make the full pump inaccessible.

thanks

I had a problem with my FLHTC, a hose had a hole rubbed in it, also you have a fuel filter in there, dont sound like something I would to seal up where I cant get back into it. This is not a scare tactic but fact, the new gas is playing heck with rubber parts these days.

I agree. Not something I would do. Too much in there you WILL have to get to at some point.

Maybe your best bet would be to modify your tank to use a fuel pump from a sporty (they mount from the bottom)

i would highly not recomend you do this! it is a paint to get it out as it is... i have had to replace 3 of them on customers bikes... i would not recomend that you remove this access, or the sporty idea is great!

+1 on leaving it accessible. I'm pretty sure that the in tank fuel line in my bike has a hole in it right now, so I know that I'll have to get in there soon. Sooner or later you will need to get in there too.

Makes me wonder what kind of mods would cover up the bottom of the tank

Thanks guys,

I was kinda crossing my fingers that nobody had such problems, I really wanted to mount my cateye dash on my Street Bob :-(

about the Sporty pump, I don't think it's a good idea, otherwise we would have seen more EFI Harleys with such mod and less thread asking about it...

I'll have to go with a Fat Bob tank I guess...

Found another way

I'll just do it the “classic” way (wanted to avoid that) and custom make a leather tank panel, just have to find something to fill the gap between the console and the tank…
