Default 95 inch kit for carb models?

Next winter, I think I am going to go 95 inch on my bike. I want to get the screaming eagle kit, but all of them say they are for EFI models, will they work for a carb bike? Mine is a 2000 FXDX.

Also, what should be done with this upgrade? Cams? I have the old style cams on my TC88, I don't really know what I would be getting into with the 95 upgrade.

I had a 95" kit put in my 2002. The cylinders and pistons are pretty generic. The cams that come the kits now are mostly for the EFI bikes. I've been told that the cams have a minute difference in them. When I go back into the cam chest to replace the shoes I've been thinking of changing to an aftermarket equivelant, for the 203 cams. The difference works out to the EFI cams (because of an EPA grind) don't have the same potential as a set of carb based cams. Carb based cams work better in an EFI bike, so I've been told.

The 95" kit should work since there is no substantive change in the twin cam 88A in the Dynas from 99 - 2005 (some minor changes in the heads) ... but, the dimensions of the cylinders and the pistons are the same .... [In fact, the post-'05 cylinders are the same, but '07 and later pistons will not work due to change in the stroke (and therefore piston geometry) ....]

Assuming you would be reusing your heads, the heads should just bolt back together the same as they came apart ....

It seems to me there should be no significant difference between cams between carb and EFI ... not saying there might not be (or cams that are 'advertised' as being developed for one or the other) ... if anyone knows what the theoretical difference might be between the cam grinds (and if it is not just 'voodoo') I would be interested in the technical explanation ....

[As an aside ... the early type of EFI for the Twin Cam 88A was Magnetti Marelli ... until '02 when they switched over to the Delphi EFI ....]

I would skip the kit and have your jugs bored. If you do some looking a lot of builders prefer to use seasoned jugs over new because they have stabilized (less core shift or something like that). It should save you some money too.

i would skip the 95 and go to a 98 in. to the heads and cams to match the whole package.

hit up Tman, Hillside or HQ and do it once.

You'll notice the only cams that 'differentiated' between EFI and cams were on the first 3 lines ... stock Harley cams ...? Not a single one of the aftermarket (or Screamin Eagle) referenced what fuel system the bike used. The difference between the EFI and carb cams was pretty modest (1 degree of duration) and a couple of degrees difference in intake opening/closing ....

I'll be interested in seeing the 'technical explanation' ....

Thanks for the info guys!

The cams will actually be done way before the rest of the motor work. I want to swap out my old tensioner for the new style, and am going to have the cams and cam bearings swapped while they are in there.

The motor work is a project for next winter more than likely
