Oil changing quetion, im freakin out.
Ok I figured i would change my oil. 1st time on this bike but have always changed my own oil. I started the bike and let it warm up. Then removed the dip stick and then oil drain plug (see pic). I only got out about a 1.25 quarts. Please any thoughts. I am supposed to remove the other bolt thats on the bottom of the trans as well. I am going to call the dealer but wanted to check with my panel of judges 1st. I have a manual and made sure i removed the correct plug. It is on the left side behind the kickstand and it has fins. I reinserted the dip stick and it comes up dry so i know i removed that oil. Only thing i didnt do was check the dip stick before removing it. I just pulled it and put it on a towel. There was oil on the dipstick.

How long did you wait to drain the oil after shutting the bike off? Don't forget there's oil in the filter. But you might have been running low in the first place. When you fill with oil only put so much in at a time and keep checking the dipstick to make sure where your at. Start the bike up to get the oil circulating and after shutting down recheck dipstick. I usually run around 2 1/2 qts but sometimes a little less.

Thanks. I think we are good. I was just freakin out when saw the little oil in the drain pan and i didnt remove the oil filter yet. Just a time of panic let say. Lets chalk this up to my first oil change. Now that i let it sit with the oil filter off I got about 1.75 quarts. So lets close this case.

Yep. Are you one of those fanatical people who always checks and tops of his bike to the fill line every time you walk by it, or does the oil get checked.... whenever? You might have just been a little low. Maybe half a quart. Its no big deal.
