Default 124" TC or new 120R TC

Hi ive been a member on here a while but have not been on for over a year.

Here is my dilema i have a 2000 fxdx with a 124" TC engine that has been built over 2 years and its quite a beast. Never put in my bike but ready to go in..

Specs are

SE 4 3/8 crank welded and balanced
Rev performance 4.25" barrells and pistons
Dan baisley SE heads with releases
Dan Baisley adjusted rockers
fueling oil pump
SE barrel studs
Jim's Hydro solid lifters
Andrews 64g gear drive cams
T man s&s manifold adapted to take a CV carb
Bob woods super king 505 carb with a thunder jet + matching air filter

I am worried that as im in the UK i will have problems if anything happens to it, i might be going to europe next year and if i broke down i might have trouble getting it back on the road.

I am thinking of selling this engine and buying the new 120R thats just come out (19289-12 Black & Chrome). My reasons are that my local Harley dealer will be able to look after it and if i brake down i should be able to get parts easily. There arent many good indys in the UK that are close and could look after the engine. I know it it will be less powerfull but will probably be more practical.

What would you do??

1.What do you think my engine is worth?
2. What would i need to fit the 120R to my bike, could i still use the Tman manifold and bob woods carb?

Many thanks Gaz

the 120R will not fit in to a 2000 frame. It only fits 2007 and up I believe. Good luck.

The new 120r is for the older TC so it will fit in the frame.

Hi Baxter,

120r is around $6,000

Mine has cost me way more than that probably around $10,000 to build

I know its stupid but i think i would prefere something which would be easier to maintain over here. I got carried away adding more and more to the engine untill the engine builder told me that i better have strong arms as this would capable of producing 145/145 with the right exhaust and carb. Which i had guessed anyway.

The Mrs wasnt too impressed when he said that either, lol

Since you built the engine, I would run it. Your probably not going to get much more than what a 120R cost.

120R is very rideable, too much power is a pain in traffic. 120R is dead easy to fit and runs great straight outta the box.....they don't come with a warranty as they are a race motor but having fitted and ridden one I would say it is the best motor for the TC....forget ultimate numbers, it has a nice flat torque curve and is very nice to ride.

Fits early and late TC frames.

I would bet the parts for your motor would be almost as easy to find as HD parts in the UK. I have completely restored a jeep and spent about 10k in many performance upgrades on my first HD. I sold both and miss them. My point is: you spent alot of time and money making your bike yours. If you replace it with a crate motor, you won't have the same attachment to it.

I'd run the motor too. You can any part you need via internet these days so why worry? No way your gonna get anywhere near the price for it that you paid for the build. Not to mention the price you paid seems a bit crazy.

I think plenty of people will tell ya to run the one you built. But you sound like you're trying to talk yourself into the other one. I say enjoy the fruits of your labor. Neither one comes with a waranty. So regardless of which engine you have, if something goes wrong, you'll be paying for it.
