Default clutch cable instalation

can anybody help me on installing a clutch cable on a 2003 dyna super glide

If you have a digital or phone camera to record the steps you take during dis-assembly. You'llneed to have a good pair of snap ring ring pliers for a big snap ring inside the clutch/transmission cover on the right side of the bike. You should have a diagram ( i.e. service manual) to help you alond.

Loosen the cable so you can get the lever out of the perch, remove 6 or 8 Allen head bolts for the teams cover (take note of placement I believe the top two are short) before taking that off find a wrench that fits the end of the cable where it goes to the trams housing, it'll be easier to crack loose once it's on. Remove housing, unscrew cable. Use snap ring pliers to get ring out. Shimmy the end of the cable out of the metal disc. Slide new one through. Make sure ball bearings seat properly and there is no binding. You should be able to rotate the disc with your fingers. You'll lose some oil so be prepared for the leak

Also remember the routing of the stock cable. And once you get everything buttoned up when it comes to adjusting the new cable (you have it very loose to get it to sit in the clutch perch on the bars) adjust it tight enough so you can fit a quarter between where the lever and the perch meet. You want a little bit of play

Unless you have a device that reduces the clutch pull, there is no need for snap ring pliers, you can remove the clutch cable without removing that snap ring in the clutch housing.
Undo the hand control end first, adjust for maximum slack and you can unhook the clutch end.

I dunno about that. I tried. I didn't feel like boogering anything up. Rather do it the right way, because you gotta get it locked back in again too. I think it's easier in the end to remove the ring.

It was very easy on the 09 Fat Bob and on my 05 WG, easy off and easy on.

When installing the new clutch cable into the cover be careful not to damage the threads in the clutch release cover. Here's how I managed to get in the clutch cable without any problems:

1. I hung the clutch cable from the ceiling in my garage using a string
2. Sat underneath it with the clutch release cover between my knees
3. Grabbed the threaded end of the clutch cable, inserted the cable end into the threaded hole and positioned the cable lined up with the cover
4. Once the two threaded parts get together, I first slowly turned the cable counter clockwise until I felt the threads falling together
5. From that point I slowly turned the cable's threaded end clockwise. When you don't feel any resistance you're OK!
