Alternate Tires for the FATBOB
#41
Tomorrow I can post a Pict. of the bike, I think or you can Google the tire and get an image. Chapparal sells them, as does J&P. I think they are listed for V Rods. They are Z rated. My last set lasted as long as the dunlop and handle way better.

It looks like the HD Tri-bar light

I have the Avons and the grip like CRAZY, but they are going to be less then 10K miles tires (for the rear at least).
Another thread has a few guys running the Michelin Commander IIs. They are "supposed" to be double the average life of a cruiser tire. I will wait and see how they like them after a while

I am new to this forum. I havent even set up pics of my ride. But I have a question that I havent been able to get solid information on. Can we put a 200 60 r16 on the rear of a fat bob that has a burley slammer kit on it? I know the local dealership will frown upon leaving the factory 180 70, but I think a 200 60 would look much nicer. If anybody has done this or seen it done, please share. thanks

The other issue is the stock rim width is 5" for the 180mm tire and the 200mm tire recommends a 5.5" rim - yes the tire will fit but not correctly http://www.sportrider.com/does-size-matter
The Avon 200 rear tire should fit without any modifications from what I read, but it's a tight fit, as will the matching front 150 tire.

I am thinking about new tires, the Avon Cobras to be specific. I was just wondering what the benefit is to get the 200/150 set up vs stock size? Is it just cosmetic for people or is it handling? I figured the fat bob already has wider tires then most bikes, so why do it? Just looking to get the best performance.

The answer is yes and no - all tires are not the same width even if they claim to be - IE some 200mm tires may be only 196mm - like these Avon for example. http://www.avon-tyres.co.uk/motorcycle/cobra

talked with metzeler tech dept on last friday. about when the new 888 would be out to replace the 880 in 180/70r16 saying next year. and told me to do the upgrade to the ME 880 200/60r16 its a v rated tire and its made of a softer compound than the 180 which is H rated more contact patch surface and will hook up better than the 180. and it will fit fine on the stock rim and no clearance issues on bike.
