belt guard tap on swing arm broke with side mount
I had a side mount plate with brake light bolted to the belt gaurd mounting tap on the swing arm. The other day the tap broke along the bolt hole and looks like it's made of cast steel, I could be wrong. If cast steel may be difficult to weld. Not sure what to do next, maybe remove tap and weld on new one or buy a chrome swing arm. Anyway I thought I just let you know that the tap can break even though the metal is quite thick.
Thanks

Yea it sucks alright, got the rear end looking how I like, with clean rear fender. Only 2000 miles old and side mount with no light will have less wieght on tab. Thanks

I have an 04 dyna and I put a license plate bracket with a 30's style stop/tail light on it using that same tab for mounting. This was the last part to finish my project.
I took it out for a ride today and the tab broke off and the plate bracket and light hit the ground and I dragged it about 50 feet. The lens is glass and it broke. I only rode 82 miles. Must be a of lot of vibration back there.
The tab looks like the heat from welding made it brittle. It has little air holes in the metal.
I'm going to drill out a bigger hole in the license bracket and mount it behind the shock bolt and mounting tab. Now I'm worried that the stress on the shock mount/tab welded to the swingarm, might break too.
That will be very bad because I don't think a new one can be welded to the swingarm.
I don't like the axle mounted brackets. We will see.
