Anybody heard of or used Terry Cable shocks.

I just installed a set of Terry Cable shocks on my 2011 Road Glide Custom this weekend up at Street Vibrations in Reno and I must say that these are by far the best aftermarket coil shocks that I have ever experienced riding on a touring bike. I had already replaced the front fork springswith a set of Works springs last year with the “aggressive” setting so a rear upgrade was in order.

Being 6’-5”and 330 lbs, it’s hard to find a shock that could hold up to my hard/aggressiveriding style or with having an occasional passenger with luggage without the shocksstarting to “fade” after some hard riding time. I was also tired of the shorter shocks not having enough travel and groundclearance along with getting beat up with some of the rough roads in the Bay Area. I’ve installed Progressive shocks in the past,but they just don’t live up to my expectations of an aftermarket coil over shock and didn’t offer much in the way of adjustment options and they didn’t last. I had talked to Terry last year in Reno about his design and after becoming frustrated with the ride that the short factory air shocks, I decided to spend the money and try out the shocks. What the heck, 90 day money back guarantee???....I really had nothing to lose.

When I met Terryat Carson City HD he took the time to talk with me and assess my riding style and requirements. After our brief conversation,we decided to go with the 13.5” shock in his newer design; this particularshock length provided a load rating of 1,200 pounds and the additional ground clearance I wanted. After installing the shocks, Terry wasn’t satisfied with the way the bike sat and the rebound reaction, so he decided to change the springs to increase the spring rate and setthe rebound again. About an hour later Iwas on my way back to Reno and I could immanently feel the difference in the handling performance of the bike, especially on the road from Virginia City toReno. The next day Terry called me on mycell phone and asked me to come by his trailer, because after thinking abouthow he had set up my shocks the night before, he wanted to make some minor adjustments. I brought the bike back, he made the adjustments in about 15 minutes and I was on my way back to the Bay Area.

During theride back, I put the bike through its paces on the winding road over the summit. The bike rode much firmer, but not to thepoint that it was jolting and had a much more positive feeling of theroad. The best part was negotiating all those turns at high speeds and feeling no wobble in the bike like I did withthe factory air shocks. Even the bumps in the road that I normally cringed about taking were firmly absorbed but not jolting like with the factory air shocks. After thejust over 200 mile ride back home, the first thing that I noticed is that my lower back wasn’t killing me from the road bumps and pot holes which would have normally been the case, so all in all the shocks are a great investment for me and my riding style.

And for thoseof you that think $800 for a set of rear shocks is a lot of money, you’re rightit is a lot of money. But for me the cost to be able to have a Harley with a tuned suspension that can carve throughthe mountain roads like a crotch rocket and still feel like a touring bike on the highway is well worth it. I would strongly suggest that you consider these shocks and if you don’t like them, return em' for a full refund. Just make sureif you can that you have them installed by Terry at one of the events that he attends so he can fine tune your setup to you and your bike…..and get the $100off show special pricing!

I almost pulled the trigger on a set for my Street Bob at Street Vibrations also. I really wish I would have, I talked to him for quite awhile and was very impressed with his knowledge and the setup he recommended for my bike. I will probably pop for a set in the future.

Which progressive shocks were you running? Its like saying I blew the doors off a Ford yesterday and not specifying whether it was a Escort or a Shelby Mustang

I was running the 440's, I also tried the HD higher end shocks with the same disappointing results. I would have to assume that a person that wasn't my size and weight may get different results with the Progressives, but they just didn't work for me.

I had Terry put a set of these shocks on my 2009 Ultra and I was rquickly impressed with the improved ride. I've owned just about every motorcycle out there and I could tell that the stability and comfort were both greatly improved in the first 10 miles that I rode the bike. You won't go back to the air shocks....improvements are very noticeable. The wife really enjoys the improved ride since we've not been able to bottom out with two up rider and fully loaded bike.

On the site it doesn't specify or ask for shock length. How does he determine that for ordering. Also not sure which "spring weight" is based on. Is it rider weight? I'm about 185. Which spring is recommended?

OP, I bought these shocks from Terry Davis himself at Black Hills Harley during this years Sturgis rally. These shocks are worth every penny.
they also had them in all black and that's what I put on my Fat Bob. Even though they are not adjustable, I don't see that it's a big issue because when you set the proper sag you don't have to touch these shocks anymore.
