How to:Dual Disc Brembo calipers on a Dyna
#121
Not saying you're wrong, but how could that be, since the swapped in rotor is the 11.8" / 300mm one that is used on the touring models with these brakes? Could it be the mounting angle of the '00+ lowers compared to the caliper mounting angle on the later-model tourers?

Howdy, So I've decided to jump on the dual brembo band wagon, and I think after reading all 13 pages I might be more confused instead of less on if the brembos sit properly. I have a 2012 FXDC, its a single side with spoke wheel and the 11.8" rotor on the left side. So for list of parts I should need is another 11.8" rotor to bolt up, the brembo calipers, a right fork slider ( Any help with what models are a direct swap would be great, I know 14-15 FXDL will work), brake lines and a master cylinder with 11/16" so probably from an 08+ touring model. Now I see people posting that with the 11.8" the caliper contacts right then I see people saying no it still won't, anyone have clarification? Will any modifications need to be made to the parts?

Call up Howard at Motorycle Metal and ask if you don't believe it but hold the phone away because you may get an earful - he's stated many times the swept area is wrong but anymore I think he just doesn't bother because some go ahead and do it anyway. Simple and least expensive route for you is :
RH Slider from 15 Low Rider
RH caliper from 15 LR
15 LR brake lines
1 fork Seal
1 packing seal for fork bolt
6 banjo bolt washers
2008+ touring master cylinder (cheap, less than $50 all day long)
2nd stock brake rotor
Brake rotor bolts (one time use)
touring banjo bolt for above (its different than yours)
Touring banjo bolt (they are different
With fluids, about $700 all in.

I did this for my 2012 fxdc, just had to buy the right lower, got brake brackets for a 65mm twin pin for 320mm rotors from QTMI, I had to email them directly, the brackets are 76 bucks a piece but worked beautifully. You then need 65mm brembo brakes, I got mine from a 08 ducati monster, a lot of the newer bikes use different brembo brakes that use a different pin pattern, I'm not positive if QTMI brakes a bracket for them or not. The 320mm rotor was what I had on my bike already so I just got another one, and then obviously new brake lines. Feel free to shoot me a message if you have any questions, its really pretty simple, but be careful or at least aware of the brakes you get, the ones I had used had a stuck piston so I had to disassemble them and rebuild. Also, something to note if you get into that mess and get used brakes, brembo doesn't list part numbers (or allow manufactures to, same difference for us) for most bikes, something to do with a law suit, so the only bikes that you can then go through service manuals and find parts for the seals and pistons for the brakes are from KTM, so you have to find what bike of KTM uses the same brake as the bike you got your brakes from.

Will they mount to your 2006-later Dyna and stop your bike?...Yes, many many people have done it. But it's not really "Right" (from a technical point of view) using 06-later Vrod/08-later Touring Cals ("Brembos") on a 06-later Dyna (it's all about the relocation of the caliper mounts on 06-later Dyna Models ONLY).

So uhh digging this up from the grave. I read through everything but I'm at work so it didn't all sink in.
I've got an 01 FXDX wirh dual disc already. So 11.5" rotors work fine and all I'd need is calipers, however full contact will not be made with the pad.
If I go 11.8" rotors, I MUST counter bore them, or did we find any years/models in which the 11.8" rotors bolt right up?

These Wilwood for example are counter-bored

They are Cheap here:

HD has quite a few 11.8" "Floating" rotors that are counter-bored like this:
