Default Synthetic vs. Conventional Oil

Mechanic at the local bike shop I go to is trying to convince me to not switch my oil over to synthetic. Bike is almost a year old with 3000 miles on it. I live in Reno so the weather is kind of all over the place.

Any reason why I shouldn't switch? I've been under the impression with air cooled engines synthetic is the way to go.

Should I make synthetic or real popcorn?

There are continuing arguments on this, I'd make real popcorn and go with synthetic oil. Been running it for the last 2k in my Fat Bob and if nothing else the bike shifts much smoother.

+1 on the shifting and doesn't clunk as hard going into first. I feel motor runs a bit cooler also.

Syn has a higher temp rating. Of course conventional will work.

When I was a mechanic at a bike shop, I didn't know very much either.

Either works, synthetic lasts longer. I go 5,000 miles on oil changes running Mobil 1 and just passed 113,000 miles on mine.

There are a bunch of threads discussing your exact question. Especially with the top end noise some people are noticing on their 103s. Do a quick scan in the oil area of the forums and you will likely be content reading the threads for quite a while, and when your done you will still be just as confused, since advocates of both sides make good arguments. Good luck
