Default big trouble!

ey folks,

I'm on a road trip in the south. I'm currently in Winston-Salem NC and was about to load up the bike and head further east to Richmond VA.

I hope on the bike to pull around to load it up, turn the ignition on and nothing. Completely dead! The bike did sit in the rain yesterday. I guess riding it in the rain and parking it in the rain are two different things.

I pulled the fuse compartment cover off and WET!

It's Sunday and though the HD dealership says they're open at 11 on Sundays, one never knows.

Ideas?

Buy a blow dryer and get busy. Check for blown fuses since you tried to crank it.

I'm at a hotel, I guess I could try that if they have an extension cord. I haven't tried to crank it. When I turn the ignition on there is NO power at all.

My first check would be the battery cables and fuses, loose battery cable will fug up your day. Blow dryer is a good idea, ignition switches are prone to corrode and fail to work..

Dry up that fuse panel and as many wiring harnesses as you can, check for dead fuses worse case get a boost from some cager, -ign off- Gotta be a short somewhere unless you accidently left the switch on. It happens.

Your towing insurance should take care of getting the bike to a dealer or indy.

Only $18 for a waterproof cover. I never leave my bike uncovered, overnight.

Yeah, I might be doin' that. I dried the fuse area as well as I could. pulled all the fuses and dried and cleaned them. I even put a battery tender on the battery...still nothin'. The hotel manager is letting me take her car up to the dealer so I'm going to take the battery up there and have them test it.

I'll be getting that waterproof cover and a bike cover for over nights outside from now on...

Will a tow guy be able to tow my bike without destroying it?

Check your starter relay too – mine went out and same thing; nothing. Battery had a charge. They are cheap. Probably pays to keep a spare on trips.

Yes, your bike can be towed. Some dealers will pick you up at no charge. Worth asking them.

Just got back from the dealer with a new battery. The old one was dead. Bike started right up though I have an engine light on now. Gonna ride a bit and see how it goes. If it stays on I'll stop in at the dealer in Richmond.

Wish me luck folks...

Thanks

Ray
