thanks for getting back to me. doing this for a friend of mine and he told me he bought 2 tachs on ebay. a Harley one and a Baron. he used the Baron one because it fit the look better. both he was told was for the 2012 wide glide but neither told where to connect to the bike. he mounted it already and hooked up the light but dosen't know where to hook the wire to get the pulse for the tach.

H-D tachs usually need three wires:
1 for 12 volt power,
1 four ground,
1 for signal.

Any chance you'll be able to post a link, some images or type ID for the Baron tach?

Here's a link to the Baron Tachometer Installation Sheet

This wiring diagram shows how to hook up this tacho.

Here's the coil wiring diagram:

  • Green wire to NEGATIVE terminal of coil (see FAQ to determine your bike’s negative side) = Yellow/Blue is negative for the coil rear; Blue/Orange is negative for the coil front
  • Black wire to CHASSIS (Ground)
  • Red wire to POSITIVE terminal of coil (Yellow/Green at coil) (or other switched 12 volt source)
  • Blue wire to POSITIVE terminal of coil (Yellow/Green at coil) (or other switched 12 volt source)

I'd recommend to connect:
the tach's red wire to the driving lights
the tach's blue wire to the fused accessory plug under the seat, pin # 1 or 3
the tachs black wire to the fused accessory plug under the seat, pin # 4
